What About to Discuss:

Introduction

SEO. If I had a nickel for every time someone asks a question about this topic I’d be a billionaire. Even though it’s highly used everywhere nowadays and everyone has at least one idea about what it is, it’s still among the most ambiguous topics in the world with plenty of misconceptions hovering around it.

So to shut that one smart guy at the office who claims to know all about it up, walk with me through everything you need to know about SEO.

Now for the first question, I’m going to ask my lovely assistant to do the drum roll for me.

What Is SEO?

Let’s throw all the jargon you’ve heard about SEO meaning away and speak in plain English for a minute. SEO is without a doubt the holy grail of the digital marketing business. It simply stands for (Search Engine Optimization).

It’s the process of improving your business site to gain more traffic on search engines, like Google or Bing for example, so your website would appear on the top of the search results whenever someone searches for something related to your business.

The more visibility you have at the top of the search results, the more customers and followers your business will gain over time. So in short, it’s the process of improving the positioning and appearance of your website in organic search results. Using a good SEO strategy is the perfect online marketing method that will bring life back to your business.

This brings us to our next point.

How does SEO work?

Search engines use these things that are called crawlers or spiders or bots.
These things dive deep into the web ocean from one site to another like reading a book cover to cover to gather as much information as they can about all of the content they can find on the internet and they put all of that information inside an index.

Think of an index as an encyclopedia that you can look through to find exactly what you’re looking for. To determine the order of appearance of web pages, the algorithm analyzes everything in this index taking into consideration tons of ranking factors to pull out a list of what it believes to be the most useful and accurate results. These algorithms use certain factors to estimate how well a webpage or a website can give the searcher what he’s looking for.

These factors are constantly changing and evolving to keep up with advances in machine learning and changing user behavior. To build a good SEO strategy, you should use these factors to your benefit and take them into account. Your strategy should include a balance of on-page SEO, off-page SEO, and technical SEO to be invincible.

What’s that? Glad you asked.

What Are The SEO Types?

It takes no SEO analyst to understand the following so let’s focus. There are three essential types of SEO:

  • On-page SEO:

Also known as on-site SEO. it’s everything that has to do with the content of your website. This includes your meta-titles, meta descriptions, meta keywords, headers, images, keywords, and more.

Once you get these things optimized to become SEO friendly, you’ll help the search engine understand the topics of your website to see that your website is a valuable source that people would want to find in their search results. This kind of SEO includes three main things that you need to focus on.

  1. Keyword research to find the best keywords within the field of your content.
  2. Keyword optimization, which is putting all the best keywords in the right places.
  3. Publishing the highest-quality content that is focused on target keywords.

  • Off-page SEO:

Also known as off-site SEO. it’s the goodwill ambassador of the internet. This type of SEO tool or technique helps strengthen the influence and relationship between your website and other websites. It’s a strategy to build yourself a good reputation among other sites. This way, you’ll show the search engine crawlers that your site is a reliable, reputable, trusted, and authentic source that people need to find to serve their needs.

The biggest factor here would be backlinks. This is where other websites with good page authority and that are relevant to yours come to put a link on their website that leads searchers back to you. This way, Google transfers some of that website’s authority to your website consequently raising your Google’s SERP (Search Engine Result Page). So this includes guest blogging, social media marketing, and brand building to keep your website with a respectable rank among its acquaintances.

  • Technical SEO:

It simply means indexing your website to make it easier for search engine bots to crawl and index your website. So it doesn’t relate to the content of your website. It’s just a strategy to improve the backend foundation and structure to improve readability and to provide a good user experience and make it easy for the search engine crawlers to understand it. A nice and smooth user experience is also crucial for readers and can affect your overall engagement and traffic rates.

Here’s a list of the main things you should focus on when it comes to technical SEO:

  1. Indexing
  2. Crawlability
  3. Mobile-friendliness
  4. Site speed
  5. Site architecture
  6. Security
  7. Structured data

Now that I’m done yapping about SEO, let’s put that information into use.
